POWA Political Mentorship

Preparing Women | Building Leaders | Transforming Politics

POWA Political Mentorship is a specialist leadership development and consultancy programme of the Progressive Organisation for Women’s Advancement (POWA), dedicated to preparing women for successful and sustainable careers in politics and public leadership.

Recognising that women continue to face systemic barriers to political participation, including unequal access to political networks, financial resources, mentorship opportunities, and decision-making spaces, the programme provides aspiring and emerging women politicians with the knowledge, skills, confidence, and strategic support required to navigate the complexities of political life and exercise effective leadership.

More than a training initiative, POWA Political Mentorship offers a structured and personalised mentorship experience that accompanies women throughout their political journey, from political aspiration and candidate preparation to electoral campaigns, public office, governance, and long-term leadership. Through a combination of one-on-one mentoring, leadership coaching, practical workshops, strategic advisory services, and access to experienced political leaders and governance experts, participants are equipped to compete effectively, lead authentically, and serve with integrity.

Grounded in evidence-based practice and informed by contemporary research on gender, politics, and public leadership, the programme seeks not only to increase women’s political representation but also to strengthen the quality, resilience, and effectiveness of women’s leadership across all levels of governance.

Our Commitment

At POWA, we believe that women’s political leadership should not depend on chance, privilege, or circumstance. It should be nurtured through deliberate investment, strategic mentorship, and sustained institutional support. POWA Political Mentorship exists to ensure that women are not only prepared to contest political office but are also equipped to lead effectively, influence policy, and shape democratic governance.

Because when women are prepared to lead, democracies become stronger, more inclusive, and more responsive to the needs of all citizens.
